About this Device
OpenMultitouch Externals turns your laptop trackpad into an expressive MPE controller inside Max/MSP and Max for Live. Play multitouch gestures as per-note pitch bend, pressure, and timbre, or read raw touch data for your own patches. On supported Apple Silicon MacBooks, optional objects add lid angle, gyroscope, and accelerometer control.
MacOS and Windows builds are available; motion sensors are macOS only.
klic.ui: A playable instrument in Max: piano keyboard or drum-pad grid, live touch circles, and MPE MIDI output for MPE synths and Max for Live devices.
klic: The same engine without the UI: ideal if you build your own interface or only need streams of MPE and touch data. Up to 10 fingers on macOS, 5 on Windows.
On Mac trackpads with force sensing, pressure can reflect real weight/grams; on Windows, expression uses finger motion on the Precision Touchpad (optimized for musical control).
MacBook motion sensors (macOS only)
lidangle: Screen hinge angle as a simple gauge and integer outlet (performance gestures from opening/closing the lid).
gyroscope: Live gyroscope view and deg/s data for tilts and continuous modulation.
accelerometer: Accelerometer scope plus tilt and tap intensity outlets for physical performance control.
